The story of Sunset by Paraskevas tavern

You may hear the locals refer to Sunset taverna as Paraskevas’ instead. That is to show how loved and respected Paraskevas is, a man full of life, warmth and always ready to welcome and accommodate you in the relaxing area of Sunset Taverna. Paraskevas is the heart and soul of Sunset tavern, who channelled his love for good food and his high standards of quality and hospitality in an establishment that soon became famous, not only for the exquisite food but also for the amiable atmosphere and its owner, who will instantly make you feel right at home, here, in Ammoudi bay, Santorini.

The story of Paraskevas Birigkos starts in 1979 when he arrived in Santorini and met his wife Margarita. Paraskevas, an avid fisherman, did not lose a minute and jumped head-first into his favourite activity. As he was located next to a sea full of fish, his daily catch reached up to 50 to 60 kilos of fish.  A lot of fish though were left over so in the early ’80s, Paraskevas and his wife Margarita decided to open the first fish tavern in Ammoudi. Ammoudi back then only had one traditional café (kafeneio), while there was no highway that connected Ammoudi with the rest of the island and all transportation of raw materials was made by ”Andrew”, a donkey who had undertaken the role of the supplier of the newly opened taverna. Instantly the taverna becomes a favourite among local fishermen, and when the development of tourism on the island begun, Sunset Taverna by Paraskevas took its rightful place among the necessary tasty stops for visitors.
